Regarding talk shows:

I always taught the talent I worked with to end each segment by saying "Up 
next" (topic 1, topic 2, topic 3), then "reset the station" (who are you, 
what are the call in numbers, and what station is this), then I begin the 
commercial break.

There's no discussion of a "break," "paying the bills," etc.
