We are on the same page, totally.
There are two poles here, it seems. We seem to be distributed between
them as a group.
There is no intent to speak ill of the dead. However, one end sees a
very foolish person who reaped exactly what she sowed, and died as a
result. If any of us engaged in similar behavior, we would have
expected exactly the same outcome and figured that we deserved it.
The other sees an evil corporation that preys on the weak in every
move it makes, and adds to the sum of human suffering both directly
and indirectly every single day. It compounds this evil existence by
doing something far more evil, that being it turns a profit. This
money *must* be taken away from it by any means necessary, either via
taxation or through the courts. A great victory for humankind is
struck every time some idiot-turned-martyr creates a situation where
profit can be extracted from this evil construct.
I gravitate strongly toward the first example. It is up to everybody
to determine his/her proper place along this continuum. The average
of the attitudes of the voting public determines what sort of society
we live in, so it matters that the choice is a fully examined one and
not just made out of sheer emotionalism.
Emotionally, I could feel this is a stupid waste of a life and demand
that someone be made to pay, and then look around for the deepest
pockets. This in fact seems to be what has occurred. However,
looking at all the available data, it is inescapable that a mature
adult would not have exposed themselves to such a situation.
None of you, no matter how right or left you lean, are likely going to
say that you'd have participated in this radio stunt or any similar
stunt. You'd have found it foolish and vulgar. You are a mature
adult. You have learned to be a mature adult. The contestant had
not. The difference is that you are alive.
Natural laws have no pity, I believe it was Heinlein who said that.
Who could argue against that in this case?
