We have adopted a new policy in the office. Do not try and be a hero.
If you are sick, or feeling that you are going to be sick, stay home.
We have worked very hard to allow everybody to VPN to our office.
Today for instance, one of our folks has kids at home. So she is
working from home through a VPN. Another thing we have done is to get
our Cisco voip system working. If you are at home using your laptop,
all your calls will be forwarded to your laptop. And we have headsets
for them. And if someone leaves voice mail, they are forwarded to our
email account as a wave file.

Stations should be expecting a few malingerers - as some "game the system" for a few day/week off - but even that is cheaper than having mass absences throughout the station!
