The obvious comes to mind.  There is probably a shipping label on the reel, start with who it was sent to.  Then if you think it was telephone or cable, contact those companies.  The type of wire may be a telling point, and the trench may have extended to some above ground access points that may be labeled.  Follow the trench!  After that, contact the station attorney's before you do anything with the wire.

wiring for the phone or cable comapny, but I have no idea who as they didn't
have any uniforms on and no marknig son any trucks they drove.

About 2 1/2 months ago, they asked if they could leave a giant spool of
cable at the top of our driveway. We said sure, figuring they'd be back soon
to continue the work. They've never come back and we have NO idea who the
cable belongs to, but it is STILL sitting in our driveway.

How do I find out whos it is? What do we do with it?
