Many of the accountants owning radio stations now don't want to have any main studios. They just want revenue from national sales to go directly to their bank accounts. Locality doesn't count. It is all those overlapping circles on the national rate-card that claim "complete east coast coverage," that they are vying for. In that way, some 1 kW transmitter in Lawrence, Massachusetts, they doesn't even go off-the-air when there's no audio available, somehow fills a hole that gives the "network" national credibility on par with NBC or CBS.
