If you can get within a few miles of the site, you can roll your own
wireless, either on 2.4 or 5.8 GHz

Cost for a 2.4 GHz system would be on the order of $300 for the extra
equipment, plus somewhere to put the modem and router (and power for
same)...

Uses more-or-less off the shelf WiFi components, but instead of wimpy
little antennas, they use Yagis.

I got one for USB (end-use link) and it works pretty good over about a
three mile path, single-ended (standard WiFi antenna at the Hot Spot)
using the PCV - boom version.

They claim up to 10 miles reliable over flat terrain.

I get about half-speed or a little better (~50 MBPS on a T-100 router);
the software that comes with it will attempt to find the strongest
signal and link in.

The wireless router:

The USB port adapter version

(both of these are with the brass boom, rather than the PVC; the claim
is the brass one works slightly better...)

HTH!

(PS: there's also a different seller that has 5.8 GHz links that use
dishes or panel antennas...)
