"It's ALWAYS about money! It's NEVER about safety!"
I've known a few cops in my time, and when quizzed, they all had the same reaction: Traffic duty is the one they hate the most, because it's not "real" police work to cite someone for going 5 or 10 mph over an already under-posted speed limit.
About red-light cameras: Some jurisdictions are beginning to see the light, and are removing them, despite the easy money they generate. Enough people are angry to the point where they're both clogging the courts and vandalizing the cameras. Traffic engineers are also pointing out that for red-light cameras to generate revenue, the yellow-light interval must be shortened, which INCREASES the chance of a rear-end collision.
