In practice, you need that 30 to 90 seconds from the time you get the alert
to get your copy ready and your head together... Then you're repeating it
several times over the warning period - something an automated EAS box won't
do.
We're also told to use our best judgement. I'm not going to get fired if I
choose to dump out of American Pie to read a TOR that expires in 3 minutes.
It's probably been 6 or 7 years since we've had a tornado warning in these
parts. 99% of the time, when the SAME radio is waking me up at 1AM, it's an
Amber Alert due to a custody dispute.

With super short fuse items like tornadoes and flash floods, simply waiting
until the end of the song could mean a whole town is flattened or washed
away without any notice.
That's a TERRIBLE policy.

> At one of the stations I jock at, the rule is as follows:
>
> 1. Weather Watch: mention at next scheduled forecast 2.
> Thunderstorm/Flood Warning: mention at next scheduled talk break 3.
> Tornado Warning: announce after every song 4. Amber alert: mention at
> next scheduled talk break
SNIPPED...
