Yep...
Just like no one could hear the difference in those AWFUL sounding first
generation Sony CD Players...you know-the ones with those reconstruction
filters that rang like crazy.
Well, my friend bought one and it had the GLASSIEST high end I've ever heard!
Sorry Bob, but they never tested me! Of course, I was the only one at the NAB
that could hear the difference between the input and output of the QEI CAT
link the year that came out too. Not only did I beat their A/B/X box every
time, I was able to describe the slight loss of transparency to them each time
I heard the output.

You might want to read the following AES Journal engineering report:
Audibility of a CD-Standard A/DA/A Loop Inserted into High-Resolution
Audio Playback [Engineering Report]
The test results show that the CD-quality A/D/A loop was undetectable at
normal-to-loud listening levels, by any of the subjects, on any of
the playback systems. The noise of the CD-quality loop was audible
only at very elevated levels.
