That's why I always spec. T1s for any project I do. When I speak of four nines
reliability, I'm talking about T1s.
Yet, you'd be surprised how many people do use cable and/or T1.
Tonight the cable Internet went out here for over an hour. Earlier I was
getting 3800/70 on my 10,000/1000 cable connection. It was this way for an
entire week late last month.
My DSL is quite stable. It's only gone out once for about 5 minutes in over a
year. needless to say, my VOIP is all on the DSL.

I have had Cable Internet, then DSL, then Cable at my home. I have
had DSL, Cable and T-1s at various other locations.
There is NO WAY cable or DSL is four nines.
Now, a T-1 is different. Yep, it is quite a bit more expensive by
about a factor of five. It is slower by a factor of two to 12 times.
However, it is a commercial, point to point connection that doesn't
touch the public Internet. Yes, I know it uses the same facilities in
many cases, but that is only because the public Internet is in other
T-1s inside the same T-3, or higher capacity circuit.
When a T-1 goes out, they go to work right away. The ONLY time I have
ever had any trouble getting a T-1 or better fixed is when one end is
controlled by one phone company, and the other controlled by a
different phone company. Sometimes, they point figures.
