If I remember my MS Certification classes, the difference between XP
home an Pro are extra layers of security in the Pro edition as well as
extra levels within the build, but of this, I'm not sure.
When MS came out with Office 2007, they also began some new coding and
composition within Word, Excel, Power Point ans other parts of the
suite. For example, 2007 will read in word format both the older legacy
DOC files, but they also have come up with a "DOCX" file. When comparing
file sizes of the exact same material, a DOCX file is much smaller than
a DOC file. The same is true when comparing a PPT with a PPTX, XLS with
an XLSX, etc. There are also some advanced features in the newer "X"
type files. Only problem I've had is if I accidentally send some one a
DOCX file and they don't have MS Office 2007, they can't read it. Office
2007 will save in the older DOC, PPT & XLS formats, but you have to
remember to do that.
The layout of the the 2007 suite programs for Word, Power Point, Excel
are somewhat different than in the older Office 2003, but once you get
used to where things are, it's not too bad.
I hope I've answered some of your questions.
