Back in the 60s, my dad was stationed at a Navy installation located
in rural Nevada.  We were suprised to find no on base chapel, the 
reason, we were told, was that the Navy determined the town had more
churches than bars, so no chapel was necessary. Whether that was told
"tongue in cheek" or not I don't know, but the fact is there were a lot
of
churches, and really not that many bars.
