I am concerned about the "marine application" part. It may have been
subject to salt-air corrosion. Will any 12-volt batteries work? I might go
to 7.5 A/hr if that is the case. Most UPS's I have seen require specific
batteries that will fit within the box. If that is the situation here, are
those batteries relatively available?
I have had good results with the Best (now PowerWare) FerrUPS with the
Extended Run--Time (ERT-2) option. They are not cheap, but I think that
filtering out all the spikes and surges helps your equipment last longer and
is thus cost-effective and the two-hour run time is nice. However, I
recently bought an APC 1300 with all the bells and whistles for $160. Three
of those would be about the same price as the second-hand Linx and you would
have a warranty.
