I DOUBT you can rent a transmitter from the manufacturer, but you may  
be able to do something with a leasing company.

You may want to speak with some of the larger equipment rental  
companies, like Silver Lake Audio, Inc.  Need Telos?  How many DOZEN  
Zephyrs do you need?

The bad thing is, I think it would be pretty to talk someone into  
renting FM transmitters and exciters, but AM is a bit harder.

Buying a new 1 kW transmitter isn't a loss though.  Who knows what  
the move might provide?  The station may get a much lower night power  
than the day power (though it is a daytimer now, that might change),  
or might get PSA/PSSA.  Also, having a 1 kW back-up for even a 50 kW  
main beats being off the air.

I just don't see it as wasted money.  However, I DO see selling off  
the existing modern transmitter as just, well, I have to write it --  
STUPID!
