> Yes the good old days...

My first job as CE was at (then) WOWW in Naugatuck, CT.
I was doing an audio proof when the phone rang at about 1 am.
It was an elderly woman complaining about all the noise (tones)
she was hearing. I told her this was required by the FCC. She
told me that she never heard this on Wxxx in Bridgeport, CT.

I thought that odd as that station's engineer was well reputed
and the station was under corporate ownership. I told her to
turn down the volume. She can't do that. It is a large console
radio I was told. Change the station. Can't do that either. Pull
out the plug. Guess what? Can't do that. This poor woman was
the ideal diary keeper! I told her she'll have to bear with me for
about another hour. I was just getting started balancing the
modulators (TX was a Gates BC-5H with new audio driver).

I'm still trying to figure out how she believed Wxxx didn't do
proofs when she was unable to change stations that night? When
I figure it out, I will let everyone know. This, BTW, dates back to
1975. I'm a little slow :-)
