Warning! If you purchase a radiation survey meter, don't get
a "surplus" one that has Civil Defense markings on it. The
police WILL confiscate it and you will not be able to get it
back! They will claim that all such meters remain the property
of the US Government and they were LOANED to local CD areas and,
therefore, can't be purchased.

Also, be warned that the police will question you for many
hours if they find a radiation survey meter in your vehicle
after they stop you for a phony "marked lanes violation"
and (illegally) search your vehicle. It happens, not only to
me, but also to many others. The police don't believe that
anybody has any reason to have anything that measures, that
scary word, "***RADIATION***!"

If you have one, you will probably find many "hot" spots.
Tilings from glass mines, etc., are filthy with radiation
as are some railroad tracks.
