I ALWAYS CARRY Potassium Iodine tabulates. We have 100 tabulates in
each car (4), my wife's office, my office, and 200 in our home. I
have another 100 in my computer bag, and in my flying bag, as flying
is VERY common for me.

They protect you from radiation poisoning. Google it.

I also carry a radiation detector, as does my family. Check out
http://www.ki4u.com/.

I have KI tabulates at home, in every home, and in our work offices.
I have them in my computer bag and in my common luggage. I just
cannot see taking them and not giving them to those around me/us.
They are very inexpensive, and, while I don't buy them, non medical
ones are even MUCH less.

In the Spring, Summer and Fall in the DC area, I carry a few bottles
of water, a flash light and my cell phone. I can call a cab, or my
wife.

In MY car, I also carry flares, candles, another flash light, and
some sort of cover, usually some blankets (mostly for providing first
aid) and a fairly extensive first aid kit, FAR MORE than most people
carry, but less than an ambulance.

In the winter, I carry also some sort of high energy food, warm
clothes, MUCH more water, extra fuel, heat pads (whatever they are
called), at least one cell phone, extra batteries, a flashlight on my
body, a flashlight in my vehicle, a strobe, and flares.

I am generally never more than 300 yards from my vehicle. When I am,
I change my plan.

I used to carry Amateur Radio gear, but hams have been falling down
on the job for at least a decade. I will sometimes carry that stuff,
but frankly, it no longer seems to be very reliable. Even when you
can make a repeater, there is no one to talk to who has a clue.

Since Cellular has become very reliable (normally) phone patches have
been removed from repeaters.

If my county is at higher alert, I carry the stuff they give me,
which can include all sorts of stuff, very good stuff -- a sat phone,
more first aid stuff...

OH, and if I am normally waling around, my .357 revolver, but if we
are at any higher alert, or if I am going rural, a 12 gauge pump and
a .223 semi auto carbine.
