[BC] Windows Vista

If only...

I'm still pretty happy with the Windows 2000 machines that I have running my
stations' digital delivery systems. Yeah the need that weekly hygienic
reboot, but we've got network times we can do those so the systems run just
fine and dandy--rarely do we have computer problems that aren't hardware or
operator related on those boxes.

I was slow to adopt XP but now I have a bunch of XP boxes hanging around my
stations and I "get" how to make those work well, too.

My plan is to skip Vista altogether, if I can manage it. So far, so good...I
don't really like the idea of not "keeping up" with a major OS change like
this but I have a feeling Vista will be the equivalent of Windows ME in the
previous consumer incarnation of Windows. Every time I got involved with it
(usually fixing my relatives' computers) it was a bad experience.

I've been playing with Ubuntu for a while now and really like it. I will
probably start messing with SuSE pretty quick so I can evaluate Rivendell in
the preferred environment. I'd still like to see if I can get us off the
Microsoft platform for our mission-critical on-air machines.
