I'm going to take wild and crazy guess. Could it be that they can't 
screw you out of as much money as a completely separate phone and 
account? I keep being told by friends in Europe that we're terribly 
far behind in Cell and Internet services.

Whenever I step into an AT&T store I brace myself for a litany of "we 
can't do that" even though I know the phone can do whatever it is easily.
