First, how do you detonate something that's not explosive? Detonation
suggests explosive chemicals contained therein. Sounds like if the cops have to add
explosives to blow up a ham antenna, then they are the ones making bombs. makes
no sense.
Isn't there an FCC rule about the act of destroying a licensed radio facility
being a major criminal act?
I guess post 9/11, we will have to get used to common sense and reasonable
risk management, being obsolete concepts.
This motto of being safe rather than sorry is getting a bit tedious. What it
does is it makes the law enforcement agencies act like frightened kittens at
a dog show. These "law enforcement organizations" are truly becoming an
embarrassment by their totally throwing away the concept of risk
analysis/management.
They should have asked the owner what this thing was before they blew it up.
Not hard to verify; ham clubs usually have relationship with the local cops.
Call one of them in to check the owner's story. This is not difficult.
Law enforcement is starting to look like a bunch of pussies in the name of
public safety and protection. What really makes me mad is the arrogance of these
organizations. If THEY don't know what it is, then it must be a bomb. Law
enforcement either needs more training about the world around them, or they need
more reliable people who can act as consultants in such matters.
If you're that threatened by the world around you, then stay in bed all day.
Do that only if you have someone check weekly, the mechanical soundness of
your bed frame; it could collapse, you know; better safe than sorry.
