I suspect ABC wasn't happy, either. Whatever ratings the station
might have had they couldn't be added to the total because the spots
never ran. When I was there any station with an AQH of less than
4,000 had to pay to run his material. I believe the charge was $125
per week. It seemed a little unfair to me since the smaller markets
often couldn't afford even that small fee. As in real life, the poor
always pay more. The big guys got it free just for barter inventory.
The little guy had to run the spots and pay a fee.
At WOR we ran Harvey for years. WABC didn't want him. We had a great
relationship with him. Suddenly WABC decided he belonged there. Since
they had Limbaugh at Noon they had to run him at 11:45. I recall Paul
calling to say he was sad to leave WOR and the decision wasn't his.
It was a very long relationship with WOR and I believe he felt he
didn't fit with the hate radio image of WABC.
