Maybe it was an antenna base loading inductor wound on a piece of PVC?  I
made a helically-wound receiving antenna on a length of 2-inch PVC once.
I'm glad I didn;t put it on the back seat of my car or someplace people
could see it.

I heard about a couple of guys who were arrested for bomb making.  Somebody
saw some pipes and wires in their car.  The police found more pipes and
wires in their garage and arrested them.  Turns out one of them was a
plumber, the other an electrician.  Duh.
