There are many sides to the die. Workers in retail sales
are being laid off in record numbers, even the "Wall Mart
Greeter." Anything that may sustain the retail stores
through the upcoming holiday season cannot be too bad.
I now have four friends out-of-work and it's only two weeks
into the crisis. If you want to close all the retail outlets,
changing the rules can certainly precipitate something
like that.
There are no publicly-owned companies that are insulated
from the current crisis. If the company I work for, with a current
stock value in the fifties, suddenly had its stock value plummet
only because it couldn't be sold or traded because the trading
companies were bankrupt, a black-night could purchase all
outstanding stock for a few dollars, close the company and
move its intellectual property to China.
BTW, my 401k lies in ruins and its only 2 weeks into the
crisis! I am 65 years of age in October! Anybody else
want to share my spot under the bridge? It's gonna be
cold in a month-or-two and without a credit-system, there
will be no money. My savings will be worth nothing as
the price of fuel becomes untouchable!
Nope. Don't change any rules that affect consumer
buying habits. Instead, start investigating the recursive
trading habits of the credit institutions and put a lot
of those accountants in jail.
Also, impeach the President. A trial for treason will
invigorate the economy. Of course, you would need
to replace all the thieving senators first.
