[BC] dropped cell signal to laptop

I encountered a phenomenon, recently, that I wasn't able to figure out 
and was wondering if anyone here knew the answer.  The day after the RNC 
ended we had the morning team from our sister station doing their show 
from our studios.  The morning team was in the talk studio and their 
news guy was in main control.  News guy had a laptop with an AT&T card 
in it and he lost the cell connection.  We both had AT&T cellphones as 
well and could verify the loss of cell signal.  But our phones came back 
in about a minute, but it took several more minutes before his laptop 
started working again, the lights on the card not registering any signal 
for it.  Why did it happen that way?
