For 15 ips, Ampex typically specified the -3 dB point at 18 kHz for 
their widely used pro recorders like the 300, 350, 351, etc. I'm sure 
they had some response at 30 kHz, but it was pretty far down. You 
could certainly get better response than that from 15 ips, but not 
with Ampex standard heads.

As far as the low end goes, CDs are *far* better than analog tape, 
which has always been constrained by head bumps.
