In this same light, those who know me know that once upon a time I
played theater pipe organ. Along with working in television for the US
Navy, I also had an organ repair business on the side down in San Diego.
Some organists wanted me to replace the tube type amplifiers in the
Leslie speakers with solid state. Although the specs on the solid state
were better than those with the older tube type amps, there was a warmth
to the sound of the tube amps that was missing with the solid state
amps. The solid state amps just sounded colder and more harsh. May be it
was me, but I know other organists who agreed with me.
