Serious question here, Dana -

The opponents of HD have decried, loudly and often, the high prices and 
limited availability of receivers.

Now we have a car radio that's available for $38 or so, after rebates 
and discounts...and the reaction is "they can't give 'em away"?

It seems to me a $38 receiver is a pretty good thing, all in all - at 
least from my point of view as a consultant to a public radio network 
that's gone from one programming stream to two with the help of HD 
subchannels, and as a sometimes news guy at another public radio station 
that uses HD subchannels on its FM to extend the reach of its 
directionally-challenged AM.

At both places, the big challenge has been a lack of receiver 
availability, so the $38 car stereos and the $49 Sony XDR-F1HDs have 
been welcomed with open arms...
