The big question you have to answer is what value did you declare on
your shipping way bill.

All of the shipping services have different maximums for declared value.

UPS, if you haven't declared a higher value will only payout $ 100 plus
the shipping charges.

I believe that UPS will only insure a maximum of $ 950 unless you have
other arrangements in place.

If you have a shipping account with the service, you usually will have
faster results.

I have filed claims with UPS and FedEx. Since I have accounts with
both, they paid what I declared the value to be after showing proof of
payment for the items. If you have a canceled check, PayPal, etc with
the shipping way bill information, that is the preferred proof.

Expect to wait around 30 days while they try to locate your item.

However don't expect miracles. With Airborne, the shipping label came
off of a roll around equipment case with the companies name stenciled on
the side. We described the case and what was in it, audio snake
cables. They came back with there were electrical cables in the case
and it couldn't be ours!

A digital audio company had a work surface in a custom shipping case
lost by UPS. It showed up on E-Bay a few months later after UPS said
they couldn't find it. The seller, E-Bay and UPS were contacted telling
them that the work surface and shipping case were the missing items. No
one was able to do anything. The seller was a legitimate E-Bay seller
that bought lots of unclaimed freight from the various shipping
companies. Fortunately one of the digital audio companies customers
bought the work surface, in order for the work surface to work, the
customer had to purchase the expensive audio engine that powered it.

Good Luck!
