This is exactly what I found in the Gates 5 box at WFIF a number of years
ago. The 60Khz PDM signal was leaking out and mixing with the carrier, creating
spurs 60Khz above and below carrier. My guess is, those caps were never
designed to handle ripple at 60Khz, so it "cooked" them internally!
Of course, when I contacted Harris' tech Support and told them what I found,
the reply: "We've never heard of such a thing before! Can you send the caps to
us for testing?"
Which I did... and NEVER got a reply. Not even to a follow-up e-mail.
