That reminds me of my Air Force days. In the early '70's the AF went
to a computerized supply system. We had a forward supply point where
flight line techs could requisition an avionics unit and swap it out
with a defective unit in the aircraft. I needed a unit and went to
the FSP where I could see from the counter that they had several on
the shelf. When I asked for one to swap out the supply guy told me
that he couldn't issue one as the computer showed that he had a
negative four units in stock. I told him to give me the damn unit and
then he could have a negative five units in stock!
