The 50F was the last RCA with high-level plate modulation.

It was then common to have a 5 kW for performing the non-DA proof,  
and then doing the initial tuning of the DA, if 50 kW.

If 10 kW, then a 1 kW would be present for the same purpose.

A lot of transmitters were installed for that purpose, and they were  
seldom used thereafter.
