Umm, not so much. While the same courtesy was extended when
Roosevelt died (no commercials, only serious and somber music), it
wasn't the FCC but the station owners and networks that immediately
decided to show deference and respect during such a difficult and
tragic time. Same happened during 9/11-- even sports stations
stopped airing commercials, and "guy talk" shows were not discussing
why the coach was a jerk or why the local team was the worst--
everybody just dialed back the sports and concentrated on letting
people express their feelings of shock and grief.
