[BC] AM Stations cranking it up on Football Night

Yes, but I loved it. I know getting fined did scare
some, but the idea of a personal fine never bothered
me, and was very useful. It went something like this.

"No sir that would be illegal and my license doesn't
let me do things like that."

"This is my station and I said do it."

"Yes, sir, I will just as soon as you give me an order
in writing and agree to pay my fine. Then, yes sir, I'll
get right on it."

"Huh?" Forget it. You're fired."

"Yes, sir. Now if you will just sign my license "satisfactory"
and give me my check I'll be on my way."

"No, I will not. I will not sign anything. I want you out the
door now."

"OK, that is good. I'm sure you can explain it to one of
the fellows who will be here in a few days from Mr. Galins
office. Oh, you don't know Ernie? Well he is the FCC
Engineer In Charge of this district. Now, please read what
it says on the back of my license about signing it as the
owner or master."

"Er .. Uh .. Well uh .. Here, lemme see that. ... (long pause)
..... Let's forget the whole thing."

"Well, let me think it over for a day or two."

Ah, yes those were fun days. I only had to do that routine
once or twice, but that is more or less the way it worked.
Trying to fire a CE for not obeying an illegal order was
such fun for owners they changed the rules. <g>
