Stop and think about it, we are all pretty happy with XP. And there were
hit and miss versions of Windows. Some very good, 2000 and XP and some a
disaster, Windows ME (and 3.1 for that matter).

Microsoft already knows Vista is a bomb, so they will move on and improve,
and a few years from now we may have something very good. They will take
what's good and replace/fix what we hate.

Case in point, my wife loves the new Excel and hates the new Word, it's all
about the UI.

I had direct experience with developing a UI on the Tektronix RFA 300. I
had a super UI developer, Kathy Engholm. My goal was to ship a product you
could figure out without the manual... so I shipped a beta box to Belo and
waited to hear from Wayne Kube. When he didn't call I called him, he said
he loved the box, had not trouble using it. Then he mentioned we forgot to
ship a manual, but that he did fine without it.

Needless to say the RFA 300 team was pretty happy.

Tektronix, the best part of my career, too bad the company walked away from
some good product opportunities, but the CEO made millions destroying a
legacy, and so it goes.
