Some software on VAXes was, but I don't think anybody uses MAC addresses
anymore because the OS needs to be running with Ethernet driver(s) installed
to even find the MAC address.
If the BIOS on the new motherboard configures the physical C/H/S of the drive
the same way the other BIOS did when the OS was installed, it should boot.
A major problem is that for large media, the C/H/S are all virtual (read phony).
Since BIOS interrupt 0x13 is used to boot the system, and it uses cylinders,
heads, and sectors, the virtual configuration needs to be identical for the
boot process.
