[BC] faking out the competition

Back in 1991, WHDH did the same thing with one of the traffic services in
Boston. We had our helicopter traffic guy come on the 2 way and report that a
dog was running free in the South Station tunnel. It was all over their
reports within 5 minutes-and it was 100% false.

When they called us all upset, I advised them that the ECPA applied to RPU
frequencies, and that they had broken federal law by publically disseminating
our RPU transmissions.

That seemed to calm them down....immediately.

Favorite Larry Nelson story is where he and the traffic reporter pulled off
a good one. KOMO had the only airplane back circa 1972 and all the other
stations gleaned traffic reports from the two-way... until one day Larry put
the traffic reporter up to reporting a "fake" accident on the two-way
only... KIRO, KOL, KAYO, etc all had egg (well fish oil) on their faces.
