Does Tom Brokaw count?  He bought a class IV (now class C) AM (KTOQ) in
Rapid City, SD in the late 70s.  I did the engineering for that and built a
C1 FM sister station (KIQK) in the early 90s.  NIMBYS forced the FM tower to
be moved 0.6 miles (from ag land to ag land).  He sold both in 1998.  Due to
court costs and having to move the FM transmitter site, I don't know whether
he made any money or not.
