[BC] Question/Statement About The Cost of Streaming

Here's some links - As I suggested, if they're running a high bitrate to
lots of potential listeners, it adds up fast.
Forex; Stream Guys wants $2k/mo for a 56 kbps stream that can be
listened to by 1000 listeners
http://www.streamguys.com/streamingservices/livestreaming.html
OTOH, Spacialnet - which I'm probably going to go with for RadioXTZ's
stream, is about half that...$1,000/mo for the same service
http://www.spacialnet.com/streamhosting/#
Higher bitrates are more expensive, of course. Which is why I'll be
using 24 kbps AAC / AACPlus to about 20 simultaneous listeners; which is
$9.00/mo. Licensing through SWCast, $12.00/mo, for that listener base.
That's the other part - if they're paying for the SESAC internet
license, minimum of about $3300, IIRC, (ASCAP and BMI include internet
simulcast-only in the Radio license; SESAC does not) plus the
SoundExchange license - which is based on ALH - that's ACCUMULATED
listening Hours, not Average. The more you play, the more you pay at
SoundExchange. Just be thankful that (so far) "they" haven't managed to
charge the transmitter ops the way they charge the computer guys - YET!
With PPM, they may have found the inroad to making the
"per-play-per-listener" model work for broadcast.
