WNLC's 6x2 arrays was highly directional. My grandparents' house was
1-2 air miles SE of the Foster Road location, 500 yards from Niantic
Bay in Waterford, and about 1/2 mile inland from Long Island Sound.
We could barely detect - if at all - any semblence of NLC's carrier.
Many mornings I'd listen to WMEX with a 5/9 signal before WNLC
switched to its day pattern. WMEX was so clear, we could hear
background noises - papers, people whispering, etc. - in the
background. WNLC's signal was better when the transmitter was on City
Pier in New London and it was on 1490 with 250 watts. 1510 at 10
kw/5kw was very poor in comparison.
