There are some good magnetic ballasts and there are
good high efficiency T12 bulbs. The Sylvania D865 is
very bright with superb color correction. It's 6500K
and well, not inexpensive. It's around $12 a bulb.
It's a good bit brighter than almost all of the T8
bulbs with electronic ballasts, but only by a few
hundred lumens. In the control room at WKDK I have
some 5000K color corrected bulbs. They are only 2200
lumens with 90+ % color correction. They SEEM brighter
than the old 4100K low color corrected bulbs that have
a much higher lumen count. And it seems cleaner and
fresher than the ugly old "Cool White".....
