Sometimes you need to remove the previous operating system.
I do this by hooking up the drive on one of my Linux Machines
and executing `cp /dev/zero /dev/hdb` (or whatever the drive becomes).

Of course it is possible that some Laptop was designed
exclusively for Windows Vista although, in spite of what the
advertising label on the machine says, I haven't found a
Laptop that won't boot Linux, yet, so I would guess that
the Windows XP install should work as well.
