Good advice Glen, but let me add something here;

>>>>>>>snip<<<<<<<<
>your insurance policies and other important documents. Basic first aid
>stuff. A flashlight and some batteries (but not in the flashlight).
>Maybe > a blanket. A radio? Sure. Your ham radio HT? Absolutely,

	A trick we use in search and rescue is to pack that flashlight with
one of the batteries turned around (Assuming a two cell). That way it's in
the flashlight ready to go with just a moment to turn the cell around, and
doesn't have much chance of being accidentally turned on that kills the
battery. I do the same in my emergency kit in the truck. The batteries
should be checked/changed at the same time you rotate out the food and
water. Spare bulbs for the flashlight are a good idea. We insist on two
sources of light since if your light is out when you really need it, you a
victim rather than a rescuer.
