You're absolutely right... the fact that they were already a "household name"
in many households (not mine, until I read this article, actually! LOL!)
certainly enabled them to have this HUGE success so quickly.
They're pioneers, now. They have blazed a new trail, and you can be sure that
MANY more will follow, and in short order! Household names will, of course,
find similar success, simply because they are already so well known.
The lesser-knowns will need more time to build momentum, but it will come for
them in proportion to the appeal of their music. The better they are, the
better rewards they will reap, but it will take longer for the "word-of-mouth" to
build them up. If some well-known gave them a promotional push, they'd see
results much more quickly... for example, if Radiohead noticed some really
exceptional "Indie" and blogged about them... Boom! "Instant" fame & some level of
fortune.
The Internet = "power to the people" in many ways. It's exciting to watch,
for sure, and fun to use! ;)
