George's NFR was interesting. He talked with excitement about what it
could do for AM broadcasting. As he mentions in Alan's copy of his paper he
wasn't interested in anything but bettering the AM broadcasting system.
At the SBE National Meeting held in Denver years ago, he was actually on the
program with a demonstration scheduled. It was well attended by many
engineers both radio-TV and also design EE types.
Unfortunately, he had trouble with his receiver or transmitting system. He
was obiviously very dissappointed as it made him look very bad. The attendees
were also dissappointed as they would have liked to have seen something
working in some way.
Dr. Frank Berry was CE of WQYK AM, where these test were made and he made
very positive comments. Anyone around the Tampa area know how to contact Frank
Berry?
Also George and his wife Mary, finally retired in the Lakeland, FL area. I
used to visit with him every year or so. He was a valuable source of broadcast
history from all of his years in radio in the midwest and time with Gates
Radio Company in several different positions. Anyone know the status of George?
Paul Rebman bought one of George's retirement businesses, his Broadcast
Mailing List Service.
