1954 that was probably when the 1190 channel was modified. Peter Haas probably knows what happened. Whatever happened allowed KLIF to go 5 kW. Non-D day from 1 kW. Non-D day.
I know that KEX and WOWO were the two 50 kW's on 1190 when I was there and KLIF 1kW. DA nite along with, KRDS w/250 Watts DA night and possibly a Kansas City station at night. The other real problem for me was the Non-D XEWK seem to recall a 10 kW. in Guadalahara?, Mexico. They would get off frequency enough to give KLIF a noticable tone while on 1 kW DA in the wintertime. I had to turn off and make bearing measurments around 8 PM at three sites to prove it was coming from Mexico. Then we would get a Frequency measurement service to measure their frequency in Temple, Texas and Austin, Texas and would have our lawyers file this data with the FCC and state department to write a letter to get XEWK back on frequency. They would correct it and them it might come up again in a year or so.

It is interesting that WOWO only went 50 kW in 1954
