I'm not going to try and pretend I have 1/1000 the technical
knowledge most here have. I can say that when I first heard of HD
Radio, I was thrilled. The prospect of true CD quality signals etc.
was very appealing to us a station that values great sounding music.
I was also very interested the 5.1 surround being tossed about. As I
studied the IBOC/Ibiquity system I quickly became aware that there
was no way that it would work as advertised. Especially in the area
we broadcast. Our mountains are both a Blessing and a curse in
transmitting FM across 5 states. 96k bandwidth? That's internet
radio. Split it into parts for multicasting? How can you hold your
head up and ask members to support this wonderful CD quality tech?
I'm at a loss what to tell folks in shadowed analog reception areas
that now no longer get us at all....our long time supporters from the
fringe that have for years gone to great lengths to pick up something
they love.I get one or two calls/e-mails a month. I'm trying not to
bash any one or thing. Just expressing dissapointment. I'm reading
everything I can...thanks guys for all the debate. Keep plugging away
and I'll buy 50lbs of sugar...I don't think I can buy 100lbs though.
I do hope that our former GM hasn't bought rotten lemons.
