 I buy what I recommend.
 The cheapest machine that will run your most demanding application that
 you can find, and plan on replacing it next year.
 *Maybe* you won't have to replace it, but.....

 Currently, I'm using a Gateway MX3228 for exactly that reason.
 It replaced a Dell Inspiron 7000.

 Not the "latest and greatest" but entirely adequate, and about 1/4 the
 cost of the state of the art.
