From a practical point of view I just wonder if after all that effort,
tubes will become impossible to procure sooner rather than later.

>Robert, you are, of course, absolutely correct. Someday, funds (and time) permitting, I would like to build one o fthose "Class E" type SS AM transmitters.

>As for the nostalgia... why not? Look at how many folks here in this Forum share stories of the bygone era of Radio. Sure, there are lots of things *not* to like abou t"the old days", but there are some things to like, also.

Some not only get these boxes working, they repair/repaint and refinish the cabinetry, knobs, etc, turning them into exquisite showpieces. Some folks restore old cars, some restor old radios, others restore old transmitters. "To each his own". :)

Personally, I was *not* sorry to see "Ol' Bessie" (Our old 5Kw tube transmitter) leave the premises in the back of another Engineer's pickup. Good riddance. I love our SS Harris Gates 5! :) But still... there is something special abou tthat "glow" when I fire-up my "B.O.B." transmitter on 75 meters, and answer a "CQ" on AM. :)
