Many managers are more concerned about their annual bonus than the well-being
of the station.
Keep the old transmitter? Helps the bottom line.
Eliminate the news department? Helps the bottom line.
Voicetrack instead of originate locally? Helps the bottom line.
Loss of listeners to satellite or other broadcaster because the old
transmitter dies or because of the loss of localism? Whoops! No profit and no bonus
for the expendable manager.
True broadcasters look beyond the next quarterly statement. Too many
managers are bean counters with no true understanding of how the business works.
