If HD is just going to be a digital SCA, Why not just do that in the first  
place?  That's called FMExtra, and yes, it can eventually be converted full  
digital delivery of your primary signal (not that I think that is likely in the  
near future).  
 
It is cheap, simple and nondestructive. Aside from the huge amounts of  money 
already spent on IBOC, and who spent it, it occurs to me that Broadcasting  
is betting on the wrong horse.  That's too bad, because if IBOC becomes an  
"also ran," in the eyes of the public, it reflects poorly on radio in  general.  
Considering that radio is supposed to be able sway the minds of  millions, it 
seems to be doing a very poor job of it at the  moment.
